Job Purpose:

An Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate working for Plymouth Ambulance Service Inc. is responsible for all activities that ensure the quality delivery of emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured to appropriate facilities of higher care, by providing competent, compassionate care and service to the needs of our customers, as well as striving to exceed our customer expectations by listening, anticipating and responding to those needs, and those of our external (family members, first responders, physicians, police and fire agencies) customers.

 

Essential Functions:

      Is committed to the Plymouth Ambulance Service, Inc. goal of continual improvement in health care delivery.  Encourages other staff members in this effort.

      Is committed to the process of team building through participation as an effective leader and team member

      Supports other staff members by ensuring the service vehicles, equipment, and supplies inventoried at the conclusion of each run. 

      That run reports are complete, accurate and provide the necessary information regarding patient treatment and the necessary information needed for billing and reimbursement

      Understands the commitment of hours for the pay scale selected.

      Follows procedures as set forth by medical director.

      Adheres to the requirements of the service as set forth by the policies and procedures.

                        Promotes Plymouth Ambulance Service, Inc., and its services through community education and public relations programs.

                        Assist and support patient care providers with compliance documentation

                        Delivers EMS functions in cooperation with other local ambulance providers, fire departments, first responder units, aero medical services and law enforcement agencies to assure continuity during interagency operations.

                        Listens to concerns that other staff members bring forward.

  

      Functions: Understands and performs specific job functions.  The following duties are normal for this position.  These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and/or assigned.

                        Serves as an EMT-Intermediate working within the scope of practice as outlined by the State of Wisconsin and in the policies and procedures manual.

                        Assures that standard operating guideline, policies and procedures and medical protocols area followed on each run, both basic and intermediate.

                        Functions as a crewmember during hours of employment.

                        Exhibit acceptable skill levels in the operation and care of the ambulance and equipment in emergency and non-emergency situations.

                        Directs the crew/persons as appropriate.

                        Share oversight responsibility with fellow employees work performance in term of adherence to policies and patient care procedures.

                        Verifies that run report information includes all required information and those items necessary for billing and reimbursement payment.

                        Assures the vehicle is returned back to service promptly.

                        Assures that all vehicle equipment and supplies are inventoried to service levels.

                        Notifies Director of Operations or his / her designee of any deficiencies regarding maintenance, equipment, or supplies.

                        Notifies either the Director or his/her designee immediately of any unusual circumstances to include but not limited to accidents, mechanical problems, response delays, patient transport delays, including patient handling problems such as slide-offs during any ambulance run in which they serve as a crew member.

                        Perform independently under emergency conditions, analyzing situations rapidly and objectively to attain proper medical care while remaining professional and tactful.

                        Attends staff meetings.

 

      Accountability:  Understands and accepts accountability for actions.

                        Demonstrates a strong understanding and is accountable for all delegated tasks.

                        Conforms to the Plymouth Ambulance Service, Inc. expectations of positive promotion when discussing PASI, using service vehicles and using company time to conduct personal business

 

 

 

 

      Additional Tasks: Able to accept and complete extra tasks and assignments.

                        Accepts and completes extra tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations and/or Board of Directors.

                        Stays late or comes in early during times of critical staffing, and when the emergency service system is critically taxed beyond normal utilization.

                        Capable of public relations assignments on short notice.

 

Specialized Requirements:

      Current State of Wisconsin EMT – I licensure ( National Registry preferred)

      Current ACLS certification

      Current PALS or PEPP certification

      Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification

      Valid Wisconsin Driver License, (Record acceptable to insurance carrier).

      Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements:

      Exhibit an acceptable level of mental and physical conditioning to meet the demands of potentially stressful, hazardous and dangerous situations.

      Capable of heavy, prolonged physical activity.  Requires moving patients across long distance or up and down stairs.

      Visual color discrimination and visual acuity is necessary. Corrections with lenses permissible.

      No apparent social/psychological inconvenience.

      Hazards and risks due to exposure to infectious disease or hazardous materials are possible.

      Potential injuries connected with restraining combative and psychiatric patients.

 

 

Applicant maybe required to submit to a medical examination, criminal background check and verification of an acceptable driving record.
